Overview
The Mana Guild is not just an institution—it is the beating heart of Versa’s technological revolution. It is the guild that mastered the refinement of raw mana stones, engineered the conduits that power entire districts, and unlocked the potential of alchemy as both science and industry.
Where the Saint Guild represents faith and healing, and the Guardians represent order and control, the Mana Guild is progress itself—the driving force behind innovations that shape daily life, from enchanted lighting to artillery-grade mana bombs.
They are the architects of the modern world, and they know it.
Leadership & Structure
The Mana Guild is ruled by the High Triad: three elected master alchemists who each hold equal voting power. Every five years, candidates—usually geniuses with major breakthroughs to their name—are nominated by guild members, and from them, three are chosen to lead.
Reelection is common. Unless an incumbent proves incompetent or a new prodigy emerges with revolutionary advancements, the Triad may remain unchanged for decades. This system ensures stability—no single leader can monopolize power, and the guild avoids the turbulence of frequent regime changes.
High Triad Responsibilities:
- Oversee research and development in mana refinement and alchemical applications. - Control mana stone distribution, ensuring guild members and contracted clients receive priority. - Negotiate with the Grand Council, advocating for the guild’s interests while balancing Versa’s growing dependence on mana-fueled progress. - Decide guild expansion, approving new branches and research facilities in allied cities.
Beneath the Triad, Mana Guild operations are divided into three primary branches: 1. Research & Innovation – Alchemists, engineers, and theorists pushing the boundaries of mana applications. 2. Production & Refinement – Workers refining raw mana stones, manufacturing conduits, and maintaining city infrastructure.
- (Bonus) Black Lab – Rumored classified division working on military and experimental alchemy.
- Commercial & Distribution – Handling sales, contracts, and logistics of mana stones and enchanted devices.
Membership & Culture
Joining the Mana Guild is not a lifelong commitment—but leaving comes with restrictions to protect trade secrets.
Joining the Guild:
- Alchemists (adventurers and scholars alike) must prove their expertise through development of a novel formula, a high-tier refinement process, or a functionally revolutionary enchanted item. - Non-adventurers can apply as laborers, scribes, or engineers—so long as they pass rigorous background checks.
Life in the Guild:
- Salaries are generous, bonuses frequent, and advancement based on merit—so most members stay willingly. - Severance is harsh: Departing alchemists undergo mandatory memory veiling (temporary suppression of sensitive knowledge). - Whistleblowing is punished with poison or exile—no one betrays the guild’s secrets lightly.
Guild Loyalty is Strong Because:
- Exclusive access to top-tier mana refinement techniques. - Best research facilities in Versa (only place where true innovation happens). - Financial stability—those who commit long-term live comfortably.
Public Perception
The Mana Guild is beloved and feared—necessary, but dangerous.
Why People Love Them:
- Mana Revolution made modern Versa possible—generators, lighting, transportation, and even weaponry all rely on their research. - Annual Alchemy Fair is a city-wide spectacle, showcasing new inventions (and securing public favor).
Why People Distrust Them:
- Mana stone prices fluctuate on guild-controlled markets, making some suspect manipulation. - Rumors persist about unethical experiments—alleged vivisections of mana-sensitive creatures, rogue prototype bombs, and secretive Black Lab projects. - They hold a near-monopoly—no competitor guild can match their infrastructure, making them indispensable and dangerous.
The Guild's most recent source of internal preoccupation is an anomaly its analysts identified in the stone market records: a pattern of extraction without corresponding sale, consistent across a small but statistically significant subset of adventurers, that points toward an unknown consumption mechanism outside the Guild's visibility. The Mana Guild brought this finding to the Grand Council. The resulting formal designation of Players as economic criminals is, in the Guild's internal assessment, politically satisfying but analytically incomplete. They know something is consuming stones that should be reaching the market. They do not know what. For an institution that has built its power on understanding exactly how mana moves through the economy, the gap is uncomfortable in a way that drives continued investigation regardless of what the Guardians are doing about enforcement.
Most accept this reality; you don’t bite the hand that lights your streets.
Symbol & History
- Symbol: - Outer metal circle = The Tower’s inverted rim. - Pink cube = A refined mana stone. - Inner pink + sign = Energy circulation (or the essence of alchemical transformation).
Founding & Mana Revolution:
- 200 years ago, craftsmen experimenting with raw mana stones unlocked the first refinement techniques—birthing the Alchemist class and laying the foundation for Versa’s technological boom. - 50 years ago, the first industrial mana generators were developed, kickstarting the Mana Revolution—turning the guild from a research collective into the economic powerhouse it is today.
Now, no city can match Versa’s mana-based advancements—and the Mana Guild ensures it stays that way.
Quick Descriptive Lines:
- “Every year, the Alchemy Fair promised miracles. Some years, it even delivered.” - “The guild didn’t sell mana stones—they sold civilization itself.” - “Leaving the guild meant forgetting. Few dared.” - “The pink cube on their banners wasn’t just a symbol—it was a warning.” - “First came fire. Then came light. Then came the bombs.”
