Overview
Wardens are the Tower's elite guardians, found exclusively inside Warden Rooms at every tenth floor threshold. They are not standard monsters. They do not roam corridors, form packs, or behave like the creatures found on the floors above and below them. They exist for one purpose: to kill whatever enters their room and deny passage deeper into the Tower.
A Warden does not wait inside its room. It is produced by the room itself, emerging from the stone walls only after the doors have fully sealed. Until that moment it does not exist in any physical sense. Once the doors close it arrives completely — no warning, no build up, no transition. One moment the room is empty stone. The next it is not.
Each Warden is a unique expression of the monster families established in the floor band it guards. A Warden at the Floor 10 threshold is recognisably related to the creatures found on Floors 6 through 9, but evolved beyond anything those floors produce naturally. Larger, more resilient, more tactically aware, and carrying a mana stone of a rank that makes the fight commercially worthwhile even before the passage it unlocks is considered.
Wardens do not pursue. They do not chase parties that flee before the doors seal. They exist only inside their room and only while that room is active. If the party escapes before the doors close the Warden is never produced. If the party kills it the Warden is recycled without respawning in the same room. It moves on, reassigned by the Tower to another room elsewhere on the floor.
They are not impossible. They are not meant to be. They are meant to be the hardest thing a party has faced so far, every single time.
