Overview
Pairing Identity
Mage + Alchemist is the cross path of reactive mana-tech.
This is not “Mage with better items” or “Alchemist with stronger spells” as a shallow hybrid.
It is the fusion of:
- Mage external mana shaping, spell architecture, and discipline casting
with
- Alchemist compound logic, item infusion, catalyst behavior, and mana-bound reaction systems
A character on this path specializes in:
- linking direct mana control to infused materials and reactive systems
- designing combat effects that sit between spell and device
- creating mana-reactive tools that behave with greater precision than ordinary alchemical work
- using spell understanding to improve technical compound and item behavior
- using mana-tech understanding to stabilize or augment magical effect delivery
Where Mage alone shapes mana directly and Alchemist alone binds mana into matter, this cross path creates the practitioner who can make mana and matter behave as one planned technical system.
Access Rule
This cross path may only be learned by:
- a Mage
- or an Alchemist
A character may begin this path through either side of the overlap:
- Mage-side training tradition
- Alchemist-side training tradition
Once a character successfully learns their first Mage + Alchemist cross-class skill, they become bound to the Mage + Alchemist cross path.
This means:
- future cross-class development may only come from
Mage + Alchemist
- that character may not begin any other cross-class pairing later
Example:
- an Alchemist who learns their first
Mage + Alchemistcross-skill is now committed to the Mage cross path
- that Alchemist may not later begin
Alchemist + Priestcross-class development
This cross path is learned by one character, not by two teammates performing a combined move.
What This Pairing Is
This pairing is the fusion of:
- direct mana expression
- technical reaction logic
- infusion
- catalyst-aware casting
- mana-responsive item work
- designed magical output through matter
It is for the character who does not just cast a spell or prepare a compound.
It is for the character who builds a mana-reaction system and then drives it with precision.
What This Pairing Is Not
This pairing is not:
- healing through chemistry
- item-only support without spell identity
- generic artificer with no magical theory
- a team-up between a Mage and Alchemist in the same party
It should remain focused on:
- mana-tech fusion
- reactive spell-material systems
- advanced infusion logic
- technical magical deployment
- item-mediated combat and utility with true mana authority behind it
Shared Overlap
Mage contributes:
- external mana shaping
- spell structure
- discipline casting
- mana pressure handling
- mana perception
Alchemist contributes:
- catalyst handling
- compound behavior
- item infusion
- circuit item tuning
- reactive system design
The cross path appears where:
- spells become technically mediated
- infusions become more precisely mana-driven
- mana shaping begins interacting with prepared matter intentionally
- reaction logic and casting logic stop being separate disciplines
What This Path Can Do
A Mage + Alchemist character can do things neither class fully owns alone:
- drive infused materials with direct magical control
- build more precise and controllable reactive mana tools
- combine spell structure with catalyst timing
- stabilize or amplify mana-bound compounds through direct casting knowledge
- create combat effects that are partly spell, partly engineered mana reaction
- use technical magical devices more intelligently in active combat
This path should feel like:
- spell-technician
- mana-reactive inventor
- arcane chem-tech specialist
- precision infusion engineer

Skill Entries
Bound Mana Reading
Category: Perception / Mana-Tech
Class access: Mage + Alchemist
Short identity line: Read the mana trapped in matter as clearly as the mana moving through the air.
What competency this skill represents:
The interpretation of mana bound into compounds, infused objects, catalysts, vessels, and reactive materials as active magical systems rather than inert stock.
Why this belongs to this pairing in the lore:
Mage can read mana structure. Alchemist understands infused matter. This skill fuses those readings into technical mana-material literacy.
Typical prerequisites:
- Mage: Circuit Reading Rank C
- Alchemist: Item Infusion Rank C or Catalyst Handling Rank C
Compatible weapon / tool / item families if relevant:
- infused items
- compounds
- catalyst arrays
- mana-tech devices
- focus tools
What Rank D means:
Can identify the basic mana behavior of infused items or compounds.
What Rank C means:
Reads more subtle interactions between mana structure and prepared matter.
What Rank B means:
Can interpret active mana-material systems well enough to predict behavior and exploit weaknesses or strengths.
What Rank A means:
Reads bound mana systems with exceptional technical precision.
Narrative use:
Excellent for making the pairing feel like a real technical magical discipline.
Tabletop use:
Supports:
- reading infused items
- identifying mana-reactive properties

Limits and anti-abuse notes:
Not automatic control over the thing being read.
Overlap check with other classes:
Mage reads raw mana structures. Alchemist understands infused material behavior. This pairing reads bound mana as an active technical system.
Charged Compound
Category: Combat / Mana-Tech
Class access: Mage + Alchemist
Short identity line: Drive extra magical force into prepared matter without losing control of the reaction.
What competency this skill represents:
The use of direct mana input to charge a prepared compound, making it stronger, more precise, more responsive, or differently behaved than it would be as a purely prepared item.
Why this belongs to this pairing in the lore:
This is one of the clearest practical fusion skills of the pairing.
Typical prerequisites:
- Mage: Mana Threading Rank C
- Alchemist: Combat Mixture Deployment Rank C
Compatible weapon / tool / item families if relevant:
- combat compounds
- infused capsules
- throw flasks
- reactive gels

What Rank D means:
Can safely add meaningful magical charge to a prepared compound.
What Rank C means:
Charges compounds more reliably and with better outcome control.
What Rank B means:
Can produce charged compounds with strong tactical value in live combat.
What Rank A means:
Uses mana-charged compounds with exceptional precision and consistency.
Narrative use:
Makes the path feel dangerous and inventive rather than just additive.
Tabletop use:
Supports:
- empowered compounds
- improved alchemical payloads
- mana-assisted combat deployment
- flexible reactive output
Limits and anti-abuse notes:
Still constrained by the quality of the base compound, mana cost, and reaction stability.
Overlap check with other classes:
Alchemist prepares the compound. Mage supplies structured mana. This pairing merges both at the moment of use.
Infused Release
Category: Combat / Mana-Tech
