Overview
Each Player arrives with an embedded tattoo in their skin, always located at the center of the chest, between the pectorals, over the ribcage. It is not “drawn on top” like normal ink. It looks more like a mark set beneath the skin, as though the dermis had grown around an ancient seal. - Visibility: only Players can see it. To everyone else, including the adventurers of Versa, the skin appears blank. - Physical sensation: when the Player first becomes aware of it, it does not feel like a wound, but it does feel present: a soft, constant point of pressure, like carrying the faintest weight inside the body. - Visual texture: thin, geometric lines with a style that evokes circuitry, runes, or a calibration seal. At rest it appears matte; when it is about to absorb mana, it “activates” with a subtle internal glow.
Different depending on class
The tattoo is not decorative. It is a biological interface of the system. Its design changes depending on the Player’s starting Class, as if it were a different “model” of anchor. - A Rogue might have a more fragmented pattern, with branching lines like routes. - A Hunter might display more directional structures, such as target marks, arrows, or rings. - A future Mage might have more symmetrical, conduction-like forms, like flow channels.
The Player does not need to understand what it means. It is enough for them to sense that the mark “belongs” to their class in the same way their body feels reconfigured for it.
Its function: absorbing mana stones
The tattoo is the payment port for the Mooring Fee. - When a mana stone is pressed against the center of the mark, the stone catches there for an instant, as if the skin possessed an invisible magnetism. - The tattoo absorbs the stone’s energy and converts it into Energy usable by the system. - The stone is consumed entirely, or crumbles into dust that vanishes, leaving only the record on the screen.
The tattoo is, in essence, proof that Players are not simply living in Versa. They are being leased into it. And the Mooring Fee is the bill that comes due every week.
