Overview
Pairing Identity
Hunter + Craftsman is the cross path of prepared ground and practical ranged adaptation.
This is not “archer with better gear” as a shallow hybrid.
It is the fusion of:
- Hunter terrain reading, shot control, and pursuit pressure
with
- Craftsman material logic, field modification, and practical construction
A character on this path specializes in:
- shaping terrain for ranged advantage
- adapting weapons and ammunition to specific field demands
- preparing positions that increase shot quality and survival
- building practical ranged support into the environment itself
- turning rough ground into killing ground through material work
Where Hunter alone reads good ranged terrain, and Craftsman alone makes terrain and gear more usable, this cross path creates the specialist who can prepare the shot-space before the fight arrives.
Access Rule
This cross path may only be learned by:
- a Hunter
- or a Craftsman
A character may begin this path through either side of the overlap:
- Hunter-side training tradition
- Craftsman-side training tradition
Once a character successfully learns their first Hunter + Craftsman cross-class skill, they become bound to the Hunter + Craftsman cross path.
This means:
- future cross-class development may only come from
Hunter + Craftsman
- that character may not begin any other cross-class pairing later
Example:
- a Craftsman who learns their first
Hunter + Craftsmancross-skill is now committed to the Hunter cross path
- that Craftsman may not later begin
Priest + Craftsmancross-class development
This cross path is learned by one character, not by two teammates performing a combined move.
What This Pairing Is
This pairing is the fusion of:
- ranged field logic
- material modification
- practical emplacement
- ammunition adaptation
- terrain preparation
- physical support for long-range pressure
It is for the character who does not just find a good firing position.
It is for the character who makes a better one.
What This Pairing Is Not
This pairing is not:
- generic trap archer
- engineer with a bow
- ranged combat plus random crafting bonus
- a team-up between a Hunter and a Craftsman in the same party
It should remain focused on:
- preparing shot-relevant terrain
- tuning ranged equipment for real field use
- building practical ranged support into the environment
- improving ranged pressure through physical preparation
Shared Overlap
Hunter contributes:
- ranged pressure
- terrain read
- lane denial
- target finishing
- pursuit logic
Craftsman contributes:
- material read
- field modification
- quick emplacement
- hazard shaping
- utility fabrication
The cross path appears where:
- terrain reading becomes terrain preparation
- ranged pressure becomes prepared kill geometry
- ammunition use becomes tuned material application
- firing position becomes engineered firing advantage
What This Path Can Do
A Hunter + Craftsman character can do things neither class fully owns alone:
- prepare a firing position instead of merely choosing one
- physically adapt terrain to improve ranged pressure
- tune ammunition or weapon setup to current target or environment
- create practical support structures for long-range control
- turn temporary fieldwork into direct ranged advantage
- maintain killing efficiency across longer engagements through preparation and adjustment
This path should feel like:
- field engineer marksman
- practical siege skirmisher
- prepared-ground hunter
- ranged controller through material logic

- Stable Firing Platform
- Constructed Kill Lane
Skill Entries
Prepared Ground
Category: Fieldcraft / Control
Class access: Hunter + Craftsman
Short identity line: Make the ground fit the shot before the shot has to happen.
What competency this skill represents:
The preparation of terrain, footing, cover, and physical position to improve ranged use before or during emerging combat conditions.
Why this belongs to this pairing in the lore:
Hunter can identify good ranged terrain. Craftsman can improve ground conditions physically. This skill fuses both into prepared ranged ground.
Typical prerequisites:
- Hunter: Terrain Read Rank C
- Craftsman: Defensive Setup Rank D or Field Modification Rank D
Compatible weapon / tool / item families if relevant:
- bows
- crossbows
- braces
- wedges
- support stakes
- compact field tools
What Rank D means:
Can improve an obvious position for more stable or safer ranged use.
What Rank C means:
Prepares ground with stronger tactical understanding of how the engagement will develop.
What Rank B means:
Can turn mediocre ranged positions into genuinely strong firing ground with limited time and tools.
What Rank A means:
Prepares shot-ground so effectively that the battlefield begins favoring ranged control before others fully understand why.
Narrative use:
Excellent for scenes where the hybrid calmly “makes the room worse” for the enemy and better for the shot.
Tabletop use:
Supports:
- improved ranged positions
- setup bonuses
- defensive ranged preparation
- better use of rough terrain
Limits and anti-abuse notes:
Not instant fortification. Requires terrain, tools, and at least a small preparation window.
Overlap check with other classes:
Hunter reads terrain. Craftsman prepares space. This pairing prepares terrain specifically for ranged domination.
Tuned Ammunition
Category: Craft / Combat
Class access: Hunter + Craftsman
Short identity line: Adjust the shot to the target,
