Overview
What Class Skills Are
Class skills are the recognized competencies that define what a class actually is in practice.
They are not:
- raw stats
- basic actions
- general equipment familiarity
- broad weapon or tool proficiency
- team tactics
A class skill is a trained, identifiable capability that belongs to a class identity.
If stats describe what a person is broadly capable of, class skills describe what that person has actually learned to do as a member of their class path.
What Class Skills Do
Class skills exist to define:
- how a class fights
- what a class contributes to a party
- what kind of problems a class can solve
- what makes one class different from another
Examples:
- a Hunter is not defined just by high AGI or bow proficiency
- a Hunter becomes a Hunter through skills like
Steady Aim,Range Management, andTrack Reading
- a Priest is not defined just by high MNA or a Holy Grimoire
- a Priest becomes a Priest through skills like
Channel,Wound Closure, andStatus Cleansing
Core Rule
A class skill may only be learned by a character whose class has access to it.
Class skills are class-bound.
They are not part of the universal skill layer.
This means:
- Hunters learn Hunter class skills
- Priests learn Priest class skills
- Mages learn Mage class skills
- and so on
A character does not gain a class skill simply by using similar equipment or having good relevant stats.
Class Skills Versus Other Systems
Stats
Stats measure broad capability.
Examples:
- STR
- AGI
- END
- MNA
- INS
- RSN
Stats support skill use, but they are not skills.
Universal Skills
Universal skills are broadly learnable competencies not owned by one class.
Examples:
- General Appraisal
- Camp Setup
- Basic First Response
These support adventurer professionalism, not class identity.
Equipment Proficiency
Equipment proficiency measures broad competence with a weapon or tool family.
Examples:
- Bow Proficiency
- Shield Proficiency
- Holy Grimoire Proficiency
This is not the same as having class techniques that use that equipment.
Cross-Class Skills
Cross-class skills are hybrid skills learned by one character who has committed to a specific class pairing.
They are not base class skills.
What Makes A Good Class Skill
A proper class skill should:
- express class identity clearly
- be trainable and recognizable
- matter in story and mechanics
- do something more specific than a basic action
- not duplicate a universal skill without reason
A bad class skill is usually:
- too broad
- too basic
- just a weapon family in disguise
- or something that should really be universal
Skill Rank System
Class skills use the normal skill rank ladder:
D
C
B
A
S
General meaning
D= real trained competency
C= reliable developed competency
B= high professional capability
A= exceptional expertise
S= rare top-end mastery
The exact meaning of each rank depends on the skill, but the ladder remains the same.
How Class Skills Are Learned
Class skills are learned through:
- guild training
- repeated real use
- breakthrough under pressure
- directed teaching by qualified instructors
- class-compatible growth recognized by the system
A class skill should feel earned.
It is not just purchased like equipment.
How To Read A Character
A full character is understood through several layers:
- stats
- universal skills
- class skills
- equipment familiarity
- equipment family proficiency
- cross-class skills if applicable
Example
A Hunter with a bow might be read as:
AGIandINSsupport their role
Bow Proficiency Bshows broad competence with bows
Steady Aim BandWeak Point Placement Cshow Hunter-specific skill expression
That is much clearer than trying to make one number explain everything.
Summary
Class skills are the core trained competencies that define a class.
They are:
- class-bound
- identity-defining
- rank-based
- narrower than stats
- more specialized than universal skills
- different from equipment proficiency
A character's class is not only what they are called.
It is what class skills they can learn, develop, and use.
